The 2017-2019 Yamaha YZF-R6 maintenance schedule calls for engine oil at 600 miles/1 month and then every 4,000 miles/6 months; replace the oil filter at the first service and then every 8,000 miles/12 months. Yamaha documents 2.60 L with a filter change, permits SAE 10W-40, and requires API SG or higher plus JASO MA. This guide is for the U.S.-market 2017, 2018 and 2019 manuals verified below.

Quick answer: the service intervals that matter most
| Item | Verified interval | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | 600 mi / 1 month, then every 4,000 mi / 6 months | Use the mileage or time limit reached first. |
| Oil filter | 600 mi, then every 8,000 mi / 12 months | HF204 and HF204RC are verified applications. |
| Valve clearance | 26,600 mi / 42,000 km | Dealer-level service for many owners. |
| Air filter | 24,000 mi / 37,000 km | Inspect/replace sooner in wet or dusty use. |
| Drive chain | Every 600 mi / 1,000 km | Also after washing, rain or wet riding. |
| Brake fluid | Every 2 years | Replace brake hoses every 4 years. |
| Coolant | 16,000 mi / 24 months | Inspect the cooling system every 4,000 mi / 6 months. |
| Spark plugs | Replace every 8,000 mi | Inspect at the intervening 4,000-mile services. |
After 24,000 miles/36 months, Yamaha instructs owners to repeat the maintenance intervals beginning from the 8,000-mile/12-month column. The manuals also state that weather, terrain, geography and individual use may require shorter intervals.
Oil capacity and specification
- Oil only: 2.40 L
- Oil and filter: 2.60 L
- Permitted viscosity grades: 10W-40, 10W-50, 15W-40, 20W-40 or 20W-50
- Required performance: API SG or higher, JASO MA
The kits below use 10W-40 because it is explicitly permitted by Yamaha and is available in the verified Motul 7100 and 300V formulas. A 4 L bottle supplies the documented 2.60 L filter-change quantity with reserve remaining. Do not pour in the entire bottle; set the final level by Yamaha's procedure.
Which oil and filter option should you choose?
Street riding and normal service: choose Motul 7100 10W-40 with HF204. It is the simplest default for a road-used R6.
Street riding with an RC filter preference: choose 7100 with HF204RC. The oil interval does not change.
Track or race-focused use: choose Motul 300V Road Racing 10W-40, with HF204 or HF204RC. Motul describes 300V as a racing lubricant and says the change interval depends on use; it does not grant a longer Yamaha street interval.

Each product is a real component-aware bundle: one live 4 L Motul bottle plus one live Hiflofiltro oil filter. Price, component cost, inventory, identity and bundle relationships were read back before publication. The parent product does not invent separate stock.
Other basic maintenance parts
Hiflofiltro's application catalog identifies HFA4614 as the air-filter application for this generation. We have not linked a P4M air-filter product here because the current live multi-variant listing does not expose enough exact variant identity to pass the same commercial gate. That is an intentional hold, not a fitment guess.
For chain service, brake fluid and coolant, select products only after confirming the product specification and the procedure in the exact manual. Those links are omitted here because this batch did not complete the same exact product audit for them.
