Who is DURAG, and why should you buy it?
Short answer: DURAG is a Brazilian manufacturer focused on motorcycle front sprockets, rear sprockets, and final-drive kits since 2007. Riders should consider DURAG because this is the company's specialty, its products have been developed around both off-road and road racing, and the range covers practical steel options, lightweight aluminum options, and complete chain-and-sprocket combinations.
In Brazil, DURAG is not a new name invented for an export catalog. It is a motorcycle drivetrain brand shaped by nearly two decades around riders, race teams, and the unforgiving job of transferring engine power to the rear wheel. For American riders discovering the name for the first time, the simplest explanation is this: DURAG grew up where sprockets are treated as setup tools, not background hardware. Parts4Motorcycles is an authorized DURAG retailer, and we currently stock DURAG products for street, sport, adventure, and off-road motorcycles.
A Brazilian company built around the final drive

DURAG dates its beginning to 2007, when the company started developing and producing motorcycle rear and front sprockets. In Brazilian Portuguese those parts are commonly called the coroa and pinhão: the two geared ends of the final-drive system that work with the chain. The company is based in Ibirama, in the state of Santa Catarina, and Brazil's national conformity registry lists DURAG Motopeças Comércio e Importação Ltda. as an active manufacturer for regulated motorcycle drivetrain components.
That focus matters. Sprockets look simple until they are asked to survive dirt, grit, repeated launches, high chain loads, incorrect maintenance, and endless acceleration and deceleration cycles. Tooth geometry, material, machining, heat treatment, concentricity, finish, chain compatibility, and gearing choice all influence how a final drive feels and wears. DURAG's company history says the brand uses design, development, testing, production, and competition feedback to keep evolving products for professional racers and weekend riders.
The DURAG racing story in five milestones
- 2007: DURAG begins developing and producing motorcycle front and rear sprockets in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
- Regional roots: Brazilian federation records and local events show DURAG supporting riders in motocross, velocross, and enduro as the brand grew inside its home racing community.
- From 2015: MOTO1000GP reports DURAG participation in European road racing, including Moto2 and European competition.
- 2025-2026: DURAG becomes the official front- and rear-sprocket supplier for the standardized Triumph Daytona 660 Cup and renews the partnership for a second season.
- 2026: DURAG-sponsored riders finish as champions across six MX1GP Brasil classes, from 50cc and junior categories through MX1, MX2, and MXF.
Why DURAG became relevant in Brazil
Relevance in motorcycle racing is not created by a logo on one fast bike. It comes from being present across years, disciplines, teams, and rider levels. DURAG's racing footprint stretches from youth motocross and amateur enduro to Brazil's highest national motocross classes and paved-circuit competition. That breadth is one reason the Factory Racing name carries weight in its home market: the brand is visible where parts are repeatedly loaded, inspected, changed, and judged by results.
The 2026 MX1GP Brasil season offered a current snapshot. Riders sponsored by DURAG finished as champions in MX1, MX2, MX2 Junior, MX Junior, 50cc, and MXF. Those titles included elite international talent, developing riders, and women's competition. The distinction is important: the riders and teams won the championships, while DURAG supported competitors across the ladder. That is a more meaningful story than claiming a sprocket alone wins races.

Off-road is only half of the racing story
DURAG is easy to associate with motocross because brightly colored aluminum rear sprockets are so visible on an off-road motorcycle. The brand's official range, however, is divided across off-road and on-road applications. The company says its products are tested in national and international competition in both worlds.
On pavement, the record is especially useful for U.S. riders meeting the brand. The Brazilian MOTO1000GP championship reported in 2025 that DURAG had been present in European road racing since 2015, including Moto2 and European competition. That same year, DURAG became the official supplier of rear and front sprockets for every motorcycle in the new Daytona 660 Cup, a standardized class developed with Triumph Motorcycles Brazil.
The partnership returned for a second season in 2026. A spec grid is a demanding kind of validation because every machine uses the supplied component in the same competitive environment. The class puts comparable motorcycles through starts, shifts, braking zones, curbs, heat cycles, and race-distance loads, giving the manufacturer feedback under conditions that ordinary road mileage cannot reproduce as quickly.

Different materials for different jobs
DURAG's current catalog includes steel and aluminum rear sprockets, steel front sprockets, matched sprocket sets, and kits paired with chains. The range is planned to expand, and there is no universal “best” material or tooth count.

- Steel rear sprockets generally prioritize wear life, durability, and value. They are a sensible choice for street mileage, adventure use, and riders who want longer service intervals.
- Aluminum rear sprockets reduce rotating and unsprung mass, which is attractive in racing and responsive off-road setups. The tradeoff is that wear inspection and chain maintenance matter even more.
- Front sprockets carry heavy load through relatively few teeth. Correct spline fit, chain pitch, tooth profile, retention hardware, and installation torque are essential.
- Complete kits make it easier to replace worn components as a system. A new chain running on badly worn sprockets, or new sprockets paired with a stretched chain, can accelerate wear.
Gearing changes also change behavior. Adding rear teeth or removing a front tooth usually increases acceleration response while raising engine speed at a given road speed; the opposite usually favors lower cruising rpm and more speed per gear. That does not make every ratio suitable. Chain length, axle position, swingarm clearance, speedometer behavior, electronic rider aids, and racing rules can all limit the correct setup.
DURAG in the United States
DURAG already had an international racing history before appearing in P4M's catalog. What changes now is access: riders can shop through the P4M authorized-retailer page, browse by front sprocket, rear sprocket, or complete kit, and verify the exact motorcycle and gearing on each product page. The complete current DURAG collection is available when you want to compare the range.

How to choose the right DURAG part
Buy through an authorized retailer, then choose by the motorcycle and the job rather than by color alone. Decide whether your priority is the wear life of steel, the lower weight of aluminum, original gearing, or a deliberate ratio change. A race-developed product still needs correct selection, installation, chain adjustment, alignment, lubrication, and wear inspection.
Before ordering, identify the motorcycle's exact year, market, model and submodel; confirm chain pitch and current tooth counts; decide whether you want original gearing or a deliberate ratio change; and inspect the full final-drive system. Use the motorcycle and component manufacturers' service information for fastener replacement, torque, chain adjustment, alignment, lubrication, and wear limits. If any application is unclear, ask us before installation.
Bottom line: DURAG is a specialist Brazilian sprocket manufacturer with a racing history that connects local off-road competition, international road racing, Moto2, the Daytona 660 Cup, and today's MX1GP Brasil paddock. You should consider DURAG when you want a purpose-built final-drive component from a company that develops this category every day, with steel, aluminum, and complete-kit choices for different riders.
